Part of the training for the Waiau-Toa Odyssey Film was to get some time in a kayak to get fit for the big pack rafting sections of the trip in the Waiau and Clarence Rivers. I reached out to Yakima, an existing sponsor of mine and Kayak HQ who sponsored PFD's, river shoes and paddles for the film.
Sea to Summit gear was key for the Waiau-Toa Odyssey adventure film. They are synonymous with lightweight outdoor equipment. Over the last five months, I have used their gear for bike packing, pack rafting, and tramping missions. I was super stoked to have them onboard for Waiau-Toa Odyssey and future missions.
The May-June issue of Mountain Bike Australia magazine has just been published with my feature on the Nydia Track. Grab a cuppa and check out the behind the scenes images, stories and maps of my trip back in December of this iconic track. Cheers to The Mailboat and On the Track Lodge for making this trip happen. I'm always keen to get into the Backcountry, but then reality gets in the way to fit in that epic multi-day trip! We are lucky in Nelson to have a lot of options to get your back country fix without going far. New for me on this trip was my ACR ResQlink Personal locator beacon from SAR Dynamics. I couldn't be more happier about this, to have the support from SAR Dynamics is fantastic.
After using Osprey packs for many years from backcountry trips through to quick shreds in the local bike parks, I am now ecstatic to be officially representing Osprey packs New Zealand.
Recently I had a quick weekend trip to ride the Queen Charlotte track as a shake-down for an upcoming multi-day backcountry trip. I wanted to test some systems out on the bike and try out the Stealth 'Heaphy Harness' and to get my head and legs into bikepacking mode.
My First New Year's trip was to the Kill Devil Track, one of Golden Bay's iconic backcountry trails. Mechanic extraordinaire Gazza and I have been talking about this trip for a while.
You can't go wrong with Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park to get your summer time fix with beach and trails. The new jump trail "Big airs" is darn fun and totally worth checking out.
I was recently invited by a back country shredder of mine Rhys Palmer and a bunch of his mates on a trip to the Craigieburn region and Mt Oxford and it was an offer I could not refuse. The reputation of this area ranges from the Mt Oxford technical alpine tussock single track through to tight and steep beech forest and the fast and flowy
This is really exciting news for me, I am now a brand ambassador for Shimano NZ. I am proud to represent such an iconic brand in the cycle industry and it's incredible to have the support and backing of this brand to continue my mountain bike adventures.
The current issue of New Zealand Mountain Biker magazine has a trip me, Zack Stones and Grant Stirling (photographer and writer) did back in August of this year. Browning Hut is always a favourite Nelson ride whether it is an overnight or a quick day trip.
Thanks to Yakima I have a Skybox roof box to make getting to my next adventure this spring/summer easier yeeow, sweet for loading up the ute for the road missions and keeping the wet and dirty gear separate.

Massive thanks to all my sponsors for making this possible especially Mike and Sandra from Santa Cruz bicycles New Zealand and the crew at Ground Effect clothing
This has been on my list to do - an overnight stay at Rocks Hut in the Richmond Forest Park. The trip involved riding up to Coppermine Saddle (stashing the bikes in the bush) followed by a 1.5 hr walk into the hut over Dun Saddle.
Stoked! Super pumped now to be sponsored by Night Lightning for lighting systems for my mountain bike adventures. They are made right here in Christchurch, New Zealand. I have already been out on some evening shreds, loving the even bright light that they produce.
